1WW - WWII CHILD'S PATRIOTIC TOY DRUM IN
ORIGINAL BOX.
More Photos, Click Here
War production required most strategic materials,
leaving only wood and cardboard for toy production. This drum is
entirely cardboard (a stiff stock) except for the narrow rope sling.
Even the drum sticks are of the same material. Beautiful display with
brilliant red/white/blue design. Top head has picture of the famed
painting “Sprit of ‘76”. 12” high and 7” in diameter. New in original
box, which has inkstamp wartime logo reading “FOR VICTORY/SAVE AND SELL
this empty carton”, and a shipping label from ECA Toys Inc, Chicago.
Also printed on side of drum "A REED TOY". Neat, original item from
WWII. We have four, all the same. The only
differences will be in the outer box, which vary slightly. Photos show a
representative example, all comparable.

2WW - FOR THE FLAG COLLECTOR - A FULL COLOR
AMERICAN FLAG FLYING FROM ITS STAFF.
More Photos, Click Here
This was very difficult to photograph...you'll see reflections in
certain shots. This is a full color American flag flying from its
staff, all made from separate pieces of cut colored glass, set in a
thick bed of plaster (see on the back). This is framed in an ornate
Victorian gold painted frame. I would judge the date to be about 1917.
Glass panel measures 9 3/4 x 11 5/8". Frame is 15 3/4 x 17 3/4". Glass
is fine. Frame has a little wear at the corners. Gold stars were glued
on and now some are gone. Looks handsome and unusual as is, but stars
could be restored. Possibly the most unusual depiction of the US flag
I've found in my entire career in military and patriotic antiques. We
paid $125 for this about 15 years ago. Will
have to be specially packaged for shipment. The frame alone is worth
a
good deal. $75
3WW - REALLY NEAT
CARDBOARD ADVERTISING POP GUN
Patented 1914. More
Photos,
Click Here Most of you will probably
be too young to ever remember these. Patented in 1914,
(dated on gun) and popular into WWII. Made of cardstock,
printed with the picture of a pistol on both sides, and
cut to follow the shape, and on front, it has a piece of
thinner paper folded inside the nose. The user holds it
like a gun, and after raising the hand, swoop it down
rapidly, and the paper in front pops out making a rather
loud report. As a child, I was never allowed to have a
cap gun, but I got a few of these type toy guns, which were great fun.
I wore out many a popping paper, (easily replaced). The
one pictured here (which is sold) was given as advertisement for
Bon-Ton Bread by White Bros. Bakery. We have them from various stores/trades, as they come.
Prox. 6 x 8. Blue gun. Orange/red flame. Yellow
background. Instructions on side plus advertising. Great,
and rare GUN. First Ive see in about
60
years. Recently a gun of this exact design printed with a
political endorsement brought at auction well over
$1,000. $18 each...Buy

MULTIPLY SIGNED “FLYING TIGERS” WWII AIR COMBAT PRINT
More Photos,
Click Here The most important and desirable limited
edition WWII Air Combat Print I know to exist. “The Flying Tigers”,
Clair Chennault’s American Volunteer Group (AVG). Shows three P-40’s
rising over China, toward a flight of Japanese Bombers. Besides this
magnificent scene by artist Stan Stokes, it is signed by 55 members of
the AVG and the artist, among which you will find many legendary names.
It was signed over a few months in 1987.
Included with the print, is a pamphlet with pictures of several members
signing the print, along with a brief but excellent history of the AVG.
Further, you get a fine certificate of authenticity, numbered to the
print. For more information on the AVG, you must see Larry Pistole’s
fine book on the AVG. I’ve had this stashed away in storage since it
was issued. Not available today. Fabulous item. 26 x 30" overall.
Mint. $650

OUTSTANDING C.1936 GERMAN CIGARETTE CARD ALBUM Entitled “DIE BUNTE
WELT” More

(which I believe translates to The Colorful or diverse) World.
Consists of 45 tissue separated pages, each with 6 different, small
colored cards, total 270 different cards. Each pictures some place,
person, animal, fish, insect or object of curiosity found over the world
and its many cultures. Completely filled in. I believe the cards came
as a premium with each pack of cigarettes. Album provides specific
place for each card, over an explanation. Condition of inside is clean,
excellent. Cover has embossed golden image of cathedral type building
over the title. Some edge wear. Rear cover has some edge tears and 1/2
x 1/4” piece of lower edge torn off. Exceptional album put out by the
Nazi just prior to WWII. Book measures 9 5/8 x 11 1/4". $95

DATED ANTIQUE KKK PLASTER STATUE
More Photos, Click Here
Probably adorned
the mantle of a dedicated Klan member. 16 ¼” high, solid plaster,
painted white, with a few details accentuated by color. Red tassel on
top of hood. Sunken eyes are black. Klan insignia on chest is red and
black. Shoes are black. Shows a hooded figure with left arm extended
(a separate piece…intentional). Date molded in rear of base is 1923.
Letters molded into front of base are “K I G Y”. I can’t tell you what
they stand for. This is an extreme rarity among Klan items, and very
little Klan material sees the light of day in recent years. Yet, a
popular collecting field. The extended arm fits into a socket on the
side of the statue. It alone has a nearly invisible repaired break.
Rest is excellent. Only the second I’ve ever seen.

FLAG

48 star.
16 x 25”.
Beautifully hand crocheted with heavy, lustrous thread.
Has the texture of thick doily.
Stripes are woven from alternating red and white thread.
Blue canton woven the same as the stripes, but with rich deep
blue thread.
The stars are paper, glued in place.
One is missing on one side.
On the hoist end are three loops woven in – to fit around a
wood stick (dowel) which is still present.
Prox. 41” long, 9/16” in diameter.
Can ship as is, or for less expense without the stick.
Lovely condition.
Perfect framing size. $95
9WW - VERY EARLY 48 STAR PATRIOTIC FLAG.
More Photos, Click Here
I believe this
to be among the very first made. There are stories of 48 star flags
made well before the official date of February 14, 1912. Made for
waving at parades, and decorating conventional halls, businesses, and
homes. Practically good as new, stenciled on polished cotton,
traditional flag material from well before the Civil War. Crisp
colors. 11 x 17 ½”, on its original 30” stick. Fine size for
framing. Can ship with or without stick for less cost. For a 48 star
flag, the star pattern is most unusual – 6 rows of 8, but the rows are
offset, one to the other. Guaranteed antique original. $50

GERMAN
WWII GAS MASK IN
ORIGINAL BOX/PAMPHLET.
More Photos, Click Here
Original illustrated
instruction pamphlet included in a grey cardboard box, 8 x 11 x 2 ½”,
the lift-off lid impressed with model number “RL1 – 39/37” and other
words which I believe mean official Civil Defense issue. 5 ¾ x 8 ¼”
four page illustrated instruction sheet shows how to put on and wear
the mask. Mask in the box looks unused. It is dark blue grey rubber
with bright metal screw on canister (filter) with numerous markings –
numbers, and one inspector’s ink stamp (spread wing eagle over circle
which would have had a swastika marking if
the stamp were perfect, which it is not. Just shows outlines. About
as fine example of Civil Defense gas mask as can be had. Few tears in
box at corners. $45
11WW - MINIATURE WWII GERMAN TRODDEL
WATCH FOB.
More Photos, Click Here
Full
scale troddels were strap and tassel decorations hung from the bayonet
frog – much like a Portepee hung from a dagger. Their color
designated status and unit. This is a rare little gem used as a watch
fob with civilian clothes, showing your military affiliation. 5” long
overall, including snap swivel which attaches to watch. Strap and
tassel are white (may have appeared silver or silver grey when new),
the stem is dark green, and slide and crown is white. Some cord wrap
which formed the cap to the tassel is missing, but could easily be
restored. Neat. $35

RARE
PATRIOTIC WWII “JIGSAW ART” WALL DECORATOR
More Photos,
Very few examples of this art survive due to their fragile nature.
Those that do survive are normally missing pieces and lack any
particular display value. This one is spectacular, essentially
perfect, and the most desirable and impressive design we’ve seen in
over 45 years of dealing and collecting Americana. Prox. 22 ½” high,
and 10 ¼” wide. Filled with patriotic American symbols, featuring at
upper center, a large raised-wing eagle sitting on the American
Shield, over a ribband reading “GOD BLESS AMERICA”. Flanking the
shield and running horizontally below the ribband are small shelves
with ornately pierced railings. Below the lower shelf is fretwork
surrounding the Statue of Liberty. I forgot to mention the inclusion
of two busts flanking the eagle – Lincoln & Washington. Constructed
in three layers of different colored wood which likely came in a kit,
with sheets of thin wood printed with the designs to be cut out on a
jigsaw. All of the designs, and especially the background fretwork is
exceedingly complex, and cut out so expertly that it appears stamped
out. Evidence of how complex the construction was, is on the back,
where the fellow who built this signed it, “J. E. MEDITZ – JR.” and
dated the construction “STARTED - OCTOBER 26, 1942/FINISHED – NOVEMBER
9, 1942”. The finest example of WWII jigsaw art we’ve ever seen.

13WW - ANTIQUE U.S. MILITARY POLICE
WHISTLE.

I believe this is from
WWI, but can't be positive. Quality tends toward WWI. Heavy brass
construction. About 3" long x 7/8" wide. Has a turned brass pedestal
riveted on the rear, which holds a 7/8" diameter steel split ring.
Mouthpiece stamped on top with "OFFICIAL MILITARY". Underside has
"MADE IN U.S.A.". Makes a loud and trilling whistle. Ball inside
appears to be wood. Very good condition. Light patina.

14WW - WWI TRAINING CAMP NEWS MAGAZINE
plus handwritten ANTI-WAR SKIT.
More Photos, Click Here Entitled
“Camp Dix Pictorial Review”, dated “June 20, 1918, Price 10 cents”. I
believe these were published more for soldiers sending home to family,
than for use just on post. Large format, 11 x 15 ½”, 12 pages plus
cover. Just about solid photos of activities, troops, equipment,
camp, training and more. Lots of horses, covered wagons, primitive
facilities. Has full page map of post and full listing of each
soldier’s equipment. This place eventually became Ft. Dix New
Jersey. Comes with handwritten one page script for a short skit, done
by two soldiers. Must have been written just after the War, as its
message is anti-War. Condition of the “Camp Dix Review” is well used
with frayed edges. Could use some repair with good
tape. Script has folds and just shows handling.

WWI and WWII GERMAN
SOLDIER DEATH-FUNERAL MEMORIAL CARDS Click
on each thumbnail photo for larger view Fascinating, very effective and
powerful for display, valuable for research, haunting reminders that
these young men were all killed, and most were from Christian
families, and were loved ones lost in that War. These cards were
likely created by the Army in conjunction with the Catholic Church,
indicated by the military appearance of these cards, their general
consistency, yet most of them also bear religious images and verse, in
addition to the Military portrait, unit and service data.
Some WWII's are topped with small iron cross with swastika,
and others are on the rear. Most WWII's
have nothing more on the rear other than the iron cross. The WWI's
have religious scenes on the rear. Cards are
medium-heavy paper, prox. 4 1/4 x 4 3/4" (some
vary from that slightly) folded down the middle
giving 4 page faces. One page is the soldier photo in uniform, usually
chest up. One page is fully military/service data. Other pages
have religious verse and image or simple patriotic sentiment with iron
cross. Neat items. All show light use. Photos
shown are representative samples

I’m guessing C.1920-40. 4¾” long. Inexpensive toy.
Revolver part is thin cast lead or pot metal. Where the grip would be
in a revolver, there is a black rubber bulb, which either sucks in the
water, or squirts it when squeezed. Rubber is flexible. Cute item.

PATRIOTIC HOMEFRONT WOOD LADY'S
PURSE

Unique in its design and construction.
Symbolizing made-do without using strategic goods. Entire exterior is
made up of handsomely joined and articulated wood panels. Light and
dark wood used for attractive look. Entire inside lined with a beige
sailcloth, which composes the purse interior, as well as holds
everything together and hinges the open/close action. Each horizontal
wood slat is unattached to the ones beside it. Only the cloth backing
joins them, thus the side show remarkable flexibility. On the face of
the purse is a 2 x 3” National symbol with spread eagle, shield,
arrows, olive branch, ribband, etc. with attractive border – all done
as intricate inlay, with color. All intact. Shows it was used quite
a bit, and I think proudly. Base of face shows signs of once having
some kind of cloth handle or sling added by owner – now gone. Really
neat WWII patriotic item. $45

heavy. Metal base has name cast in, reading “H. SCHOLTER”. I bought
it 12 years ago when I was still into motorcycles – came through

rested on some German officer’s desk. Just has some tarnish to the

Handsome wood tray 15 3/8 x 24 5/8”, with light
and dark wood inlay, framing the decorative glass tray surface. A
good deal of the decorative work is reverse painted on the glass,
primarily the large central U.S. flag. The rest of the designs are
windows in the black background, which allow you to see through the
glass to an iridescent blue layer made up of butterfly wings. This
includes the backing for a picture of Franklin D. Roosevelt over “V”
for victory, the lettering “GOD BLESS AMERICA”, and two scenes in Rio
De Janeiro, where this was made. Even the canton of the flag is blue
from butterfly wings. Extremely artistic and unusual WWII item,
obviously made during a period when we had better relations with our
Southern neighbor. Condition is only good. Where the glass is
painted on the back, it is flaking, though most of the color, design
and effect still remains. Has great feeling of the times. Will
require special packaging, and a good size box...send

Very heavy, nickel plated brass.
4 1/2" high.
1 1/2" in diameter.
Hole in upper third on side, with plunger on top.
Took the smaller cigars of the period, which came to a point in
the rear.
A raised band at rear (sabot) has impressed writing ‘PETER THE
GREAT/Gunport Bros. Makers, Phila".
Believe the "Peter" name refers to a large artillery piece
known at that time.
Plating fine, except flaked off sabot area, which makes it look
like it was made that way.

a monumental string of turbulent history. Flag ran from February 13,

issuance around 1912, or at least WWI. I base this on the context of
the flag – it came with a quantity of similar flags all earlier.

I’ve forgotten
the story behind this one, but it’s familiar to most WWI collectors,
and probably commemorates service in France. The bronze drop has an
embossed picture of a railroad freight car with soldier with horse
inside and soldier standing outside looking at the car. Associated
with this medal is a saying…8 horses – 40 people…referring to the
maximum capacity, frequently exceeded. Has original silver grey
ribbon 1/2” wide, 1 5/8” long. Top has pin back. Bottom has bronze
drop 5/8” wide. Made by Whitehead & Hoag (U.S. medal maker). Total
length is 2 ½”. Ribbon is light blue, and is a bit faded.

This is a flag we found in a box of older
material, put away about 25 years
ago, and came in a lot of old flags of all kinds. It's
older than 25 years, but just what period of time, we do not know.
It's definitely not newly made. We have no
idea what country or what it was made for. The size is 26 x 36"
including fringe. It is machine stitched, clean.
The fabric is fairly soft feeling, doubled with the back being the
bright yellow. Perhaps someone will know what it was made for. Need
ironing, otherwise excellent. $8

general term for a most unusual and handsome book which has besides
printed text, a great number of various sized colored pictures
individually glued in their designated spots. Some of these albums
actually were filled with cards obtained as premiums with cigarettes.
This wonderful volume is entitled “DEUTSCHLAND HOCH IN EHREN”. Cover
shows a UHLAN with horse. Content seems to relate German military
history from the earliest times to the present (1933). 9 ¾ x 13 ¾”,
thick, stiff paper covers. 66 pages. I estimate well over 300 color
insert pictures, predominantly combat. Complete. Clean. Excellent.
Shows some handling/edge rubbing. $95

On a nice slab
of marble 5 1/2 x 7 3/8", are mounted a rifle cartridge, piece of
shrapnel, shrapnel ball and large brass artillery shell fuse. On
a brass ribband mounted to the marble base with chamfered edges, is
the hand engraved identification and date of the items. It reads
"ANVERS 1914", very early War. All items have nice mellow
patina. Marble base was broken in half front to back in the
middle. I J-B Welded it back together. Crack is
visible, but not seriously or obviously detracting, and it certainly
won't break again. Nicest relic stand I've seen in years.

By J. L.
McBrien. Compiled as a broad and valuable reference for educational
institutions and public officials to use in engendering unity and
patriotic spirit throughout the country and particularly the youth…all
this as the country stood at the precipice of entering WWI, and
confronted the inevitable contention between those who wanted to keep
us out of the War, and those who pushed for immediate entry. An
excellent source for all the arguments of the time, in a very
attractive hard bound volume. The cover has three young men holding a
large flag staff with full color U.S. flag. 5 ¼ x 7 ½”. 288 pages.
Even has a large section with patriotic poetry taken from many famous
sources. Excellent condition, showing very light wear. $10

PHILIPPINES DURING THE JAPANESE OCCUPATION.

The Japs threw us out of
the Philippines very early in the War, and weren’t removed until very
late in the War, after some of the most violent and costly battles of
WWII. These packets recall MacArthur’s “I shall return”. Only after
we reoccupied the Philippines did the money end its usefulness and was
turned in, hopefully in exchange for something equally useful.
Several bills show ink stamp markings indicating some sort of
collection and exchange by a government entity. Fabulous collectibles
from the Pacific Campaign, and the Japanese Occupation of the
Philippines. These are original packets containing approximately 50
bills. Same size and type of engraving as US bills. 2 3/4 x 6 1/4".
The words “THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT” run across the center, over the
denomination. There is one 100 peso bill, the rest being mostly 10
peso notes with an occasional 5. Some ink stamped in oval “Japanese
War Notes/received for Safe Keeping/Association of the Philippines”.
Bills run from about new to well used. Super neat items. Each
packet…$35
