AX WITH ORIGINAL HAFT.

One of the neatest early things I've ever encountered, which is
why I've kept it around my office for over 30 years. Just a
wonderful, pure, honest original piece in very good condition with
deep original patina to both wood and metal. Ax head identical
to several in line 6 of ax-heads shown on page 25 of Neumann &
Kravic's "Collector's Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American
Revolution". Head has straight leading edge, round pole, oval eye,
sharply rearward angled head. 6 3/4" tall, 4 3/4" blade.
Small impressed letters "PINO"(?) on one side. Haft is 30" long,
slightly curved, and oval in cross section its entire length.
While smoothed from centuries of handling, the original tool marks are
seen end to end. Wonderful patina to wood. Head is deep
dark chocolate brown, smooth mixed with patches of shallow texturing.
Wonderful item. $795

About
the only utensil carried by a soldier, beyond a knife. This one is
well made, nicely contoured, and excellent. 8” long. Color
transitions from light tan to dark brown. Underside of bowl has a few
small holes from worm bites. A rare item which belongs in any
collection illustrating our earliest years or a soldier’s meager
possessions. $25
